One of the benefits of Avive’s REALConnect software is the ability to view the location of your Avive Connect AED(s) remotely. Every Avive Connect AED uses a combination of GPS, cellular and available Wi-Fi networks to determine its location.
While GPS generally provides the best location accuracy, if the device is stored in an area where it is difficult to establish GPS connection (i.e. inside of a building or basement), the device will use a combination of nearby Wi-Fi and cellular networks to determine its location. If your device is stored inside of a building with no nearby cellular or available Wi-Fi networks, it may not be able to reflect its location accurately in REALConnect.
When does the Avive Connect AED update its location in REALConnect?
The Avive Connect AED shares its updated location with REALConnect at least once a day during its nightly self-test. However, a device will also update its location in REALConnect when any of the below actions are performed:
- Power button pressed to power on the AED
- Display (screen) button pressed to turn on the device screen
- Sync Now button pressed on the device’s screen
- AED Status Check (pressing and holding the Power button)
- Nearby Emergency Alert received*
- Lost Mode / Refresh Location toggled ON in REALConnect*
*For devices in High Power Mode, or devices in Low Power Mode connected to a charger.
What is the circle that is around my device on the REALConnect map?
The size of the circle reflects the accuracy of your device’s location. A smaller circle means that the device is more certain about the location, while a larger circle suggests there is a wider range for where the device might be located.
How do I improve my device’s location accuracy?
Here are some tips to help you improve the accuracy of your device's location in REALConnect™:
- Ensure that Location Services are enabled (On your device's screen go to Settings > General > make sure the Location Services toggle is enabled).
- Make sure you are not on Airplane Mode and that your Wi-Fi is toggled ON.
- Connecting to a Wi-Fi network will improve location accuracy. If you can't connect to a Wi-Fi network, keep Wi-Fi toggled ON so that your device can scan for nearby networks. This scanning helps the device determine its location. (On your device's screen go to Settings > Wi-Fi > make sure the Wi-Fi toggle is enabled).
- If indoors, place your device near a window to improve the likelihood of picking up a GPS signal.
- If possible, consider moving the device to an area with more Wi-Fi networks available or with better connectivity coverage.
Why is my device’s location showing up inaccurately?
The size of the circle around your device on the REALConnect™ map reflects the accuracy of your device's location.
A large circle suggests that the device is reporting a location with lower accuracy which could result in an incorrect or imprecise location.
This can happen for the following reasons:
- Location services have been disabled on your device (i.e. toggled OFF).
- GPS signals are not available or difficult to connect to.
- There are little to no Wi-Fi and/or cellular networks available in the vicinity of your device.
- IT administrators in your area have put in place security measures that mask their Wi-Fi information and obfuscate location information.
In this example, the device is reporting lower location accuracy in REALConnect and should be located somewhere within the circle. In this instance, the dot is in the center of the device's location accuracy circle and may not be reflecting the device's exact location.
